Diptychs 1-4

Because I was busy with other matters pressed for time, I ended up only taking about 70 pictures over 3 days, but it worked out; I was able to at least look through some other diptychs online, and get an idea of the different relationships I wanted between the 2 photos before I took mine. The only one that was a "happy accident" is below, originally I wanted the 2 shots to just be lonely, which they still are, but I found the symmetry between the plant overgrowth in these 2 more interesting... the next one, a "green" theme (or green on black in this case) is probably my least favorite, I would have liked to have time to do a lot more same-color object photos to find a better match. The next two both have an often-seen wide shot/close-up combo, the close-up revealing details unseen in the wide, ( cracks in the paint/veins in the petals). I realized after putting them all together I had no vertical shots, which was just coincidence, but I wanted to do one with different sizes and also a portrait, I will try and get that done over the weekend.

*edit* made some portraits of my friend Rebecca on Sunday, I still felt kind of rushed but I'm satisfied with the result

As it turns out I was not satisfied, i made a crop to the left photo and replaced the right one, the first 2 work together but i think i like the balance of the 2nd combo more

Retouch Assignment

I used an old photo of my grandparents for this assignment, not too beat up but it had a pretty terrible uneven red cast over the whole thing, I worked on it a little at home, and finished it up in class and after printing you could see it was still too red on the bottom and too cyan on the left from me over-correcting it, none of which I had noticed, until I brought the file home to look at on my monitors, and then it was pretty noticeable... not an amazing job but it's at least an improvement over the original

Digital Photography: Advantages/Disadvantages

Advantages:
  • Instant preview of photo w/ histogram
  • No cost of film, only the cost of memory card
  • Digital Darkroom work is more convenient
  • Organizing Digitally is more convenient and also gives access to metadata
  • Instant ISO change w/o having to replace roll of film

Disadvantages:

  • Higher photo quality and ability to print larger requires much more expensive camera
  • Noise at a higher ISO is always considered ugly whereas film grain can sometimes look attractive
  • Cost of quality lenses much more expensive compared to similar quality film camera lenses
  • Requires a computer to edit and store images
